Today we mourn the passing of Marie's grandfather. I never knew either of my granddads, they died before I was born. On my wife's side, she hour to know them both. However, grandad Wilson was her last grandfather. He was a funny guy with lots of stories about his life: how he met his wife, his time in the army in WWII, the first time he attempted skiing... They could go on and on.
On my side of the family, same day as grandad Wilson, we lost Mary Lou Ricker, an aunt of mine. For both of these events I was at TechEd in Atlanta. The hard part for me was not so much the passing of my family members, we figured grandad was not long for the world after a recent doctor visit, but I feel bad I could not be there for my wife when she found out. I also feel bad for my brother-in-law, he was traveling to visit his family when we found out grandad died.
I will post about TechEd next week, for now I haver a family to take care of.
To Mary Lou Ricker and Grandad Wilson: you will be missed.

The Good and the Bad
This week was good and bad. Good was my middle daughter had her 11th birthday party, and it was a success. She is growing up to become a beautiful young lady and someone I'm proud to know. I don't think there is much higher praise than to have your child view you as a friend and respect your opinion. Course, she's not a teenager yet, but I hope she holds on to this a little longer. If I'm really lucky, she takes after her elder sister who still listens and speaks to me, even though she is 17.
The bad new is my wife's grandfather is diagnosed with cancer. The prognosis is not good, and we don't know how much longer he will be with us. We have a trip to visit them planned at the end of next week, after the girls finish the school year.
Lastly, on neither good nor bad news, I will be at TechEd in Atlanta this week. If anyone reading this blog happens to be down there, please drop by the Secure Vantage booth and say 'hi'. I'll be there most of the time, do have to hop out for a few scheduled calls, but otherwise it'll be the booth and me demonstrating our software.
